English first division club Chelsea are preparing to withdraw from plans for a European football super league, according to reports from the British media.

This was reported, among others, by Sky News and the BBC, citing unnamed sources.

There was initially no official announcement from the club.

Manchester City should also consider withdrawing.

The media reports said Chelsea are preparing documents to officially say goodbye to the plans.

Chelsea fans, who had gathered in front of the Stamford Bridge stadium in London to protest against the Super League plans, were already celebrating, as could be seen on videos on social networks.

Chelsea FC is one of six English clubs that have committed to founding a Super League.

You want to compete with the Champions League of the European Football Union Uefa.

With the exception of a few places, participation in the new competition should be permanently reserved for a group of fewer top clubs.

However, the plans are met with broad resistance from fans, politicians and associations.

Uefa has threatened that it will impose sanctions on clubs and players participating in the Super League.
