The Super League explains having based its project on a poll very favorable to the project. But in detail, the reality is more complex. I

The twelve dissidents did not need this study to get started, but it is timely.

To give credibility to its secessionist project, the Super League therefore relied on an OpinionWay poll that Le Parisien obtained and that it had itself commissioned.

The result is clear: 66% of football fans are in favor of the project.

The Latins are the hottest, with 76% of the Spaniards behind this closed league, 72% of the Italians and 71% of the French.

In Germany, we push to 57% for the competition and 59% in England.

4,063 football lovers, aged at least 15, were interviewed in Spain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and England via the Internet, between February 10 and 15.

Note that in France, only political polls are controlled by an ad hoc committee, not other questions.

In detail, the youngest (15-24 years) in Europe are the most fervent supporters (73%), unlike those over 65 (50%).

PSG supporters are, after those of Manchester City (87%) and Real Madrid (86%), the most fierce supporters of this initiative, with 84% of favorable opinion, ahead of lovers of AC Milan, FC Barcelona or even Juventus Turin. However, the Parisian Ultras, the most audible certainly, largely relayed their refusal. They are 84% for, but it looks like we only hear the 16% against.

On the side of the Super League, it is explained that this study facilitated decision-making.

The verdict, however, questions.

Although indisputable, would this survey include some subtleties that would allow you to twist your arm in reality?

In November 2018, an Odoxa survey showed that only 42% of football fans advocated the idea of a closed private competition of this type.

“I am surprised,” comments Emile Leclerc, director of studies at Odoxa.

Either, opinion has completely changed in three years, which is possible;

either the definition of the target is very precise.

There are indeed several ways to get interested in football. The Super League, it argues that it only sought to take the pulse of the ultimate enthusiasts, those who pay to subscribe and see matches on television or at the stadium. In other words, she believes she has collected the opinions of the hearts of her customers. And ensures that one and only question fed its investigation, which is rather rare. In general, the chosen institute takes the opportunity to decline the subject by multiplying the entry points.

The club of twelve still advance to have acted in full transparency: by giving the names of the participants - moreover mid-February, it was question of the presence of PSG, Bayern Munich and Dortmund, today opposed to this split of 'with UEFA - and the principle of the chosen format (15 fixed clubs with five guests). But there is a difference between responding coldly, spontaneously, and speaking out when the topic is on the table and in public debate. When the respondent has heard arguments for and against for days or weeks, his judgment in general changes, sometimes to the point of being completely reversed.

It will therefore be interesting to follow the next polls on this Super League, which will not fail to arrive. They will undoubtedly be more complete and closer to reality, with Europeans who have had the time to listen to each other's opinions.
