Deconfinement: how will the resumption of sport be organized from May 3

The lifting of the 10 km travel limit as of May 3 broadens the prospects for practicing sports, even if the curfew constraint remains.

The framework will be defined on Friday (what distance? 6 or more people in the public space?) But we already know that, as has been the case since January 20, the sport will only be practiced outdoors.

Within structures and, a priori, at school.

At the sports ministry, we want an exception to be made for swimming pools, so that children in primary schools pursue the plan "to know how to swim".

Sports associations, mistreated for many months, hoped for a gesture.

During his speech Thursday, the Minister of National Education and Sports, Jean-Michel Blanquer, clarified that sport was "a public health issue".

He also recalled that he had, with Roxana Maracineanu, the Minister for Sports, wanted "that sports clubs remain open during the holidays ... with a practice outdoors.

This outdoor practice, which puts martial arts, fencing, basketball and handball clubs in difficulty, remained the rule.

For how long ?

"As soon as it is possible, we will loosen the constraints", clarified Jean-Michel Blanquer before adding "but we are not there yet".

From the public at Roland-Garros?

No indoor practice within associations for minors therefore ... and no reopening of fitness rooms, widely used by adults and whose doors have been closed for over a year.

Unless there is a big surprise, these structures will not be affected by phase 1 of the reopening, which will begin in mid-May.

Back to class, deconfinement, quarantine, vaccines: what to remember from Jean Castex's announcements

Finally, what about the return of the public to sports arenas? If he mentioned a resumption of certain sectors for mid-May and cited "sports activities" as well as "cultural activities", Jean Castex has not yet given details. The return of the supporters, initially in the open air enclosures, would be envisaged for the end of May - beginning of June. It will be extremely progressive. We inevitably think of the Roland-Garros tournament, postponed by one week (from May 24 to June 13) in the hope, precisely, of welcoming spectators. Discussions should take place next week between the tennis federation, the sports ministry and representatives of the interministerial crisis council, which oversees health measures. The hopes that the famous tournament will open its doors to the public, however small, are however very thin.
