At the age of 10, Sagi Berman came to train in the youth department of Urbani Nesher.

Eyal Berkowitz established a new department and Berman, who lived in the Krayot, dreamed of becoming a player in the Premier League.

Under the examining eyes of the "magician" it was decided to place the child in the brake position since he was relatively tall for his age.

Nesher still believed there was potential, but it did not materialize, and Berman stopped playing.

Like quite a few players who retire at a young age, Berman turned to refereeing and took a crash course in Haifa.

The excellent physical fitness and impressive performance were taken by the judges' union with both hands.

Berman quickly rose up the league ladder, until last year he received the coveted promotion to referee in the Premier League.

So far Sagi Berman's part.

Now, at the age of 26, he is officially undergoing a process of gender reassignment (transgender) and from now on any treatment of him will be in female language.

Hence the new name is Sapir Berman, and tomorrow she will officially introduce herself as the first transgender judge in Israel.

The referees' association clarified that there is no connection between Berman's decision and her professional advancement, and she will continue to judge in the Premier League and the National League.

"Now that she's out, she's very confident in what she's done," said a senior Premier League referee. "She hides nothing. "Without too many filters. If something bothers her, she immediately says, and this is something that everyone who has already judged with her has learned to accept and understand."

The judges' union made it clear to Berman that if you experience unpleasant incidents such as cursing fans on the pitches or things like that, the union will support everything you need, including the psychological aspect.

However, union leaders were recently surprised to hear that Berman "did not put anything on", and that for her there is no difference between curses on the basis of her election and the usual curses directed at judges on a regular basis.

"When she sits in front of the camera, everyone will understand what it is about," concluded union officials, and this is indeed expected to be one of the most interesting moments in the history of Israeli football, and also an important test for everyone.
