FC Augsburg has apparently parted ways with coach Heiko Herrlich.
As the "Augsburger Allgemeine" and the "Kicker" report, the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club reacted to the latest 2-3 defeat against direct rivals 1. FC Köln on Friday evening.
In addition to Herrlich, assistant coach Iraklis Metaxas must also leave.
According to the reports, Markus Weinzierl will be his successor.
The 46-year-old had already trained the FCA from 2012 to 2016.
Weinzierl was last given leave of absence from Schalke and Stuttgart.
He is currently without a club.
Herrlich succeeded Martin Schmidt in Augsburg in March 2020.
The 49-year-old managed to keep the team in the league last season.
His contract would have expired on June 30, 2022.
After just one win from the last five games, Augsburg are only four points ahead of the relegation place, and after a decade in the Bundesliga, the first relegation threatens.
The last three opponents from Augsburg are VfB Stuttgart, Werder Bremen and on the last matchday Bayern Munich.
