Runners have it easier than team athletes in Corona times: They can continue to pursue their passion.

And the district athletes do it with a lot of commitment, as a competition in Kempten proved.

Kempten

- running "is luckily also possible in Corona times," says Peter Vogt. In the open air it is even allowed in company. The Rottenbucher has made great use of this possibility in the past weeks and months. He and Stefan Fichtl, his Hohenfurcher colleague in the “Schönegger Käse Alm” team, have completed numerous training runs together - and have not only motivated each other, but also really spurred them on. That brought success: At the “Seitz Laufsportwochen” in Kempten, Vogt and Fichtl shone on all three distances offered there (half marathon / 10.5 kilometers / 5 kilometers) with top times and top places.

Peter Vogt set a personal best in the half marathon with 1:19:43 hours. He undercut his previous five-year-old record by around two and a half minutes. “I had a good day,” reports the 36-year-old. My focus was on the half marathon. Vogt, who had completed an average of 60 training kilometers per week in autumn and winter, had traveled to Kempten with the clear goal of staying under 1:20 hours. And he set the pace accordingly - with a time of 3:45 minutes per kilometer. For him, the competition went without any major fluctuations, "I ran my pace consistently". However, the circuit, with start and finish in the Iller Stadium and along the Iller, is not super-fast. Towards the turning mark at kilometer 5.28 the terrain becomes slightly wavy, the route leads in this area over a dirt road. But there was no stopping Vogt: “It was going well,” he says happily. During his time, he finished 14th in the overall ranking and fourth in his age group.

Participants were able to run the route for two weeks

The "Seitz Laufsportwochen" were very well attended on all distances. Running friends from near and far were obviously eager to be able to compete again. The 2200 starting places were fully booked. There was an opportunity to run one or more routes for two weeks. “It was well organized,” said Vogt. Six days after his half marathon appearance, the Rottenbucher delivered further very strong performances over the 5 kilometers (17:01 minutes) and ten days later over the 10.5 kilometers (38:54). He even won his age group over the short distance and came third in the quarter marathon. During the last outing, Vogt felt the exertion of the previous races: “I wasn't so fresh then.” Nevertheless, it was enough to finish in the top 15 in the overall standings over the 10.5 kilometers.

Stefan Fichtl (born 1984) was also in good shape.

The Hohenfurcher completed the half marathon in 1:25:22 hours.

In the overall standings, he finished 37th out of 293 male finishers.

Fichtl finished seventh in the M35 class.

On the 5-kilometer distance, the 36-year-old clearly undercut his previous record and crossed the finish line after 17:45 minutes.

That made him third best in his age group.

Fichtl also reeled the 10.5 kilometers very quickly, in 39:02 minutes.

In the overall standings, this meant 16th place, and fourth place in the M35 class.

In addition to Vogt and Fichtl, other athletes from the district also convinced.

In the quarter marathon, Maria Elisa Legelli from Böbing achieved the seventh fastest time with 42:43 minutes.

On average she was traveling at 14.8 km / h.

In the W30 class, Legelli came second behind Olympic participant Corinna Harrer (39:27).

The Schönbergers Markus Niggl (Schönegger Käse Alm) and Heinz Schilcher (DAV Peiting) also landed far ahead.

Niggl (39:25) was sixth in the M35, Schilcher (43:22) fourth in the M50.

Stefan Legelli from Böbing crossed the finish line after 45:59 minutes - in the men's main class he finished 26th out of 76 classifieds.

Two podium places on the 5-kilometer distance

There were two podium places for the district athletes on the 5-kilometer distance - both in the over-69-year-old class: Ludwig Höfler (Concordia Burggen) won with 25:55 minutes. In the overall ranking, he left 192 men, some of them significantly younger, behind him. The 74-year-old Schongau, who is also very active in cross-country skiing, was satisfied with his performance. “You can't be better than first,” he said. On average, Höfler ran every kilometer in 5:11 minutes. The Concordia athlete praised the organizers: "It was - for the difficult Corona period - a great event." He would like more running events to be organized like this. For Herbert Hopp (71) from TSV Weilheim, 30:46 minutes meant third place.

Also remarkable were the performances of Heidi Höfler (Concordia Burggen / W45) in seventh class (23:06) over the 5 kilometers and of Markus Großkopf, bowler at Frischauf Weilheim, with 1:45:36 hours in the half marathon. Heidi Höfler ran about the time she had reached at the 2020 New Year's Eve run in Kempten. Nicole Resch (58:00) from Wielenbach stayed well under 60 minutes in the quarter marathon.
