The chess players of SC Moosburg celebrated a safe victory in the semifinals against Eppendorf III.

The strongest team in the 4th division is now waiting for the final.

Moosburg

- You actually did it: The players of the Moosburg chess club are in the playoff finals of the 4th division in the German Chess Online League (DSOL).

On Friday evening, captain Mathias Schwenck and his colleagues won surprisingly clearly with 2.5: 1.5 against SK Johanneum Eppendorf III.

With wins on the first two boards, the Moosburg team were quickly 2-0 in the lead - the opponent was only able to make cosmetic results in the end.

"That was very strange this time," Schwenck describes his impressions.

“Because I never had the feeling that anything could go wrong.

With Matthias Melcher's quick 1-0 lead, while we weren't in great danger on the other three boards - everything was clearly going in our direction. "

Melcher ignites the turbo

With Matthias Melcher on board two, it actually seemed as if he had switched on the turbo in this game: He started with the white pieces in a Sicilian manner and then acted quite sharply, so that his opponent never really got into the game. After 17 moves, only half of the pieces were left on the board, and Philipp Keyser put Moosburg number two into chess for the first time. The Eppendorfer was still able to escape from this - but twelve moves later he had to acknowledge the superior position of the SCM player and gave up after 45 minutes of play.

After this quick lead, the signs for the Dreirosenstadters were on victory. Especially because Almir Azemovic showed a strong game on the first board after the opponent opened with his black pieces, explains captain Schwenck. "In the following years he used the weaknesses of his opponent's pawn structure to his advantage." The Moosburg number one only brooded once for a long time when Eppendorf's Robin Keyser pulled his bishop to H6 on the tenth move. “For a short time I didn't even know what the opponent wanted,” admitted the Serbian, born in 1986, after the game. “He started in Catalan, was doing very well, and suddenly he was attacking my king's side. So I thought: is there something new or what is it? Because if not, and he doesn't want to go over my side, then I'll attack.“The tactic:“ First secure my tower after E8 - and then a pawn on C6 to stop his white bishop. Then tie up his jumper with the lady and give him a bad structure. "

According to Azemovic, this worked very well, so that he was able to benefit from further small mistakes as a result.

Ultimately - with one more pawn and a better position for Black - everything was very easy.

Obviously not for opponents Robin Keyser, because he gave up after 33 moves.

With two wins on the first two boards, the Moosburg team was already unmatched 2-0 ahead.

Shortly thereafter, Schwenck delivered half a point from the well-deserved draw with Eppendorf's Oskar Neumann.

Luis Hobmeier couldn't score this time and was checkmated in 41 moves in the longest game of the evening by Leonard Killgus.

In the end there was an undisputed 2.5: 1.5 victory for SC Moosburg and thus the deserved entry into the finals of the 4th division.

Tough chunk in the endgame

The opponent there will be SK Paderborn I on Friday at 7.30 p.m., which is not only the strongest team in the 4th division in Schwenck's opinion.

So far, the Paderborn team have all clearly won their seven preliminary round games and the two final round games.

But SC Moosburg is still undefeated in this DSOL season with seven wins and two draws.

Compared to Paderborn, the Dreirosenstadters have the hardest-working point collector with Almir Azemovic (6.5 points) on board number one.

In the final hosts from North Rhine-Westphalia, Noah Stirnberg (8 points) is third.
