Seeshaupt - Despite the cool temperatures, the sailors feel spring. On the website of the German H-boat class, a video whets the appetite for the upcoming regattas. Topic: “Fit for the season.” At Lake Starnberg, however, Finn Kenter thinks about the basics. “Somehow we'll get the ship into the water,” the skipper from the Seeshaupt Yacht Club is convinced.

He doesn't have a precise plan yet. Because of the contact restrictions due to the pandemic, the right wind is still missing in the sails. Sailing together with his brother Lasse and the two other crews Philipp Frieß and Merlin Gnutzmann is currently impossible due to the two-household rule. To do the most necessary work on the boat, Kenter only has his parents. At the regattas, however, the Filius will not show up with them, but with his young crew, with whom he took eighth place at the International German Championship last year.

Since a reasonable preparation is currently not possible, Finn Kenter has to improvise.

His plan is for him to first acquire the necessary degree of hardship in the smaller regattas in order to then be able to survive against the competition at the big events.

He is reassured by the fact that his opponents have no other alternative to get themselves back in shape, should regattas be held again in Germany at some point.

The season premiere last weekend on Lake Baldeney has already been deleted from the calendar.

Kenter is aiming for a start in the German Junior Sailing League

The season opener in the sailing league, which will take place in Prien am Chiemsee from May 7th to 9th, is still valid. However, Kenter will not start because he wants to compete in the four competitions in the German Junior Sailing League (DJSL) alone for the Bodensee-Yacht-Club Überlingen. "It is the last year that I can sail that," he explains his decision. "I want to really enjoy that again."

That doesn't mean he can put his feet up. The Überlingers are the defending champions in both the DJSL and the Youth Sailing Champions League. It has not yet been decided which of the four regattas Kenter will be assigned to. However, he hopes to be awarded the contract for the competition in Kiel at the end of July. His teammates have already trained together over Easter. The prerequisite for this was a hygiene concept that Überlingen's team manager Matthias Steidle described as “stricter than the state regulations”. FFP2 masks were even compulsory on the water, and tests were carried out every 48 hours.

And Kenter has marked another date: the European J70 Championship from August 27th to September 4th in Copenhagen, for which 168 teams have already registered.

“This is really amazing,” says the head of the sea.

He is not yet entered in the registration list.

However, he shouldn't hesitate much longer, as more than 150 teams will not be admitted.

Information:

Seeshaupt is home to several sailing clubs that offer the opportunity to take part in regattas.

These include the yacht club Seeshaupt, the sailing department of FC Seeshaupt and the Oberland Seeshaupt sailing club.
