The ITF tournament for the "Seniors Cup" in Neu-Ulm offered the chance to once again complete a tennis tournament at a high level.

Luise Humml (TC Schongau) took the chance - and delivered a top result.

Schongau - The past few months "have not been easy," says Luise Humml. As a tennis teacher, she was particularly affected by the corona restrictions and was not allowed to work for a long time. And there was no aid from the state either. “We all had these difficulties,” says the 55-year-old Schongauerin, referring to her industry. At least there are small rays of hope: According to Humml, training with individual people is permitted outdoors, while the places in your club, the TC Schongau, have recently been opened. In terms of sport, Humml got off to a brilliant start to the season. At the "Seniors Open" in Neu-Ulm, Schongau won the women's 50 tournament.

Only players who appear in the world rankings were admitted to the competition of the International Tennis Federation.

When asked about her current position, Humml has to pass: “I don't know.” It is not so important to her where exactly she is.

She competes in ITF tournaments to meet other opponents, as she says.

Incidentally, Humml is currently 565th in the global ITF rankings.

Luise Humml plays number one in the Schongau women's 50 team

At the TC Schongau, the tennis teacher plays in the women's 50 team. In the summer round, which is supposed to start in June, the team will again compete in the Bavarian League. Last year the Schongau women won the title, but the promotion to the regional league did not materialize. Humml, playing in second place, won all singles in 2020 (6-0). Even in the doubles, their balance (4: 1) was clearly positive. This year she plays number one.

In Neu-Ulm, the Schongauerin met players who all had a higher performance class than herself (5.9). On top of that, the opponents from Baden-Württemberg had the advantage that tennis games and training were allowed there continuously. But Humml was not impressed by any of this. At the beginning there was a 6: 1, 6: 2 victory. In the semifinals she met the number two seed Katja Tielbörger and also won in two sets (6: 4, 6: 1). According to Humml, the victory was sovereign.

In the final the number one seeded Katalin Böröcz was waiting. The regional league player of the TC Doggenburg Stuttgart has been very successful with the German national team in recent years. At the Senior World Championships in 2017 she won silver with the women's 55 team and even gold (team) and silver (doubles) in 2018. In Neu-Ulm, however, Humml was better. In a two-hour match, the Schongauerin prevailed in three sets (7: 6, 4: 6, 10: 7) and was happy about a "very good start to the season".
