Is Fritz Keller still wearable after his lack of taste?

A secret favorite as a successor would actually be ready.

A comment from Merkur sports director Armin Gibis.

It has not yet been clarified what upset Fritz Keller, President of the German Football Association (DFB), to such an extent that he treated DFB Vice President Rainer Koch with terrifying verbal rudeness.

But it is already becoming apparent in this matter: The derailment is likely to shake the world's largest sports association once again - and Keller's image threatens to suffer a total loss.

Scandal between Fritz Keller and Rainer Koch: the summit of months of hitting and stinging at the DFB

In a nutshell: In a presidium meeting, the DFB boss compared the cook, who had long been unpopular with him, with the Nazi henchman Roland Freisler, who, as President of the People's Court, is responsible for around 2,600 death sentences and the organization of the Holocaust. Freisler went down in German history as the embodiment of the murderous injustice justice of the National Socialists. To draw a comparison here with Rainer Koch, presiding judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court, is more than just an unacceptable injury. Rather, Keller committed an irreparable breach of a taboo. What kind of devil has ridden him? The assumption is that the German soccer boss lost all self-control in the dispute with Koch - and that this state of affairs was mixed with more than insufficient historical sensitivity.

The DFB * and its highest official have been giving a pitiful picture for some time now.

The months of hitting and stabbing in the executive floor testify to permanent weakness in leadership.

Whereby Keller, who should finally do better than his scandalously failed predecessors, was not able to pacify the internal disputes.

The obvious renewed escalation of the power struggle in the DFB only allows the conclusion that Keller has finally disqualified himself as a leading figure.

Even if he admittedly does not want to admit it, it has finally become unsustainable for an association that is responsible for seven million members and that is facing enormous challenges, also due to the pandemic.

New DFB President?

Secret favorite Philipp Lahm

The permanent crisis of the DFB can only be remedied with personnel consequences.

But: is there still a suitable candidate for high office to be found at all?

Well, there is someone who has long been considered an innocent secret favorite with a footballing past: Philipp Lahm.
