First degree this season for Holon (Photo: Danny Maron)
Congratulations to Hapoel Holon, which tonight (Thursday) won for the first time in its history in the Balkan League after a victory over the Bulgarian Academic Plovdiv in the final. Together with the historic victory of Nes Ziona in the FIBA European Cup, Israeli basketball completes two nice achievements that add a lot of respect to it.
Holon and the rival from Bulgaria met already this season in the Balkan league, so the Israeli team did not have a hard time and defeated easily. In the fourth quarter, Holon managed to make a difference, thanks to a great game by Tyros Maggie and Isaiah Miles and together with the fatigue of the opponent, closed a big victory and the first European title in its history, just before the opening of the top 8 games in the Champions League FIBA.
Scored to Holon:
Tyros Maggie 20 points, Isaiah Miles 18 and 8 rebounds, Guy Pennini (6 rebounds, 6 assists) and Nate Sastina (5 rebounds) 14 each, Maxim de Zhao 13, Frederic Bourdieu, Willie Workman Chris Johnson 3 each, Oded Brandwin 2, Tal Zach 1.
Scored a
lot in Plovdiv:
Oberd Tomic 18, Yira Veczica 16, Jihi Carson 10 and 11s.

the progress of the game
Quarter 1: The
opening was closer than expected when the Bulgarians did not let Holon escape.
Dadas' players often lost, much thanks to Academic's defensive game, which came ready and confused the Holon players.
The "host" scored beyond the arc and went up to 18:21, but the stubborn Bulgarians responded well and went down to the second quarter with a surprising advantage,
23:26.
Quarter 2:
Plovdiv escaped at one point to seven points, but Holon managed to close the gap easily.
De Zhao found great Isaiah Miles under the basket to set a 40:40 mark.
Precisely when it seemed that Holon were taking over the game, Academic again managed to close a good first half for them with a
40:46
advantage
.

Quarter 3:
Tyros Maggie reduced Academic's difference to just minus a point, but Plovdiv's players responded well and went up to 47:53.
The Nazarene was released to the Bulgarians this quarter, and they went up to double digits, 51:61.
Holon once again began to offset the difference, this time with a dunk by Isaiah Miles plus an offense committed on him allowed Holon to force a draw.
64:66 to
Flavodiv at the end of the third quarter.
Quarter 4: A
three by Iza Miles and another dunk by Sastina transferred the advantage to Holon for the first time since the first half.
The tired Bulgarians tried to turn back, but Miles, Sastina and Tyros Maggie came with the knife between their teeth for the decisive quarter.
The local difference rose very quickly to double digits, and hence academic players could no longer return.
75:91
to Hapoel Holon at the end, which is celebrating its first European title.
