It would have been the big hit: The chess players of SC Moosburg were in the fourth division playoff final of the DSOL.

Ultimately, however, they had no chance.

Moosburg

- There was nothing to get for the players of the SC Moosburg on Friday in the final of the 4th division in the German Chess Online League (DSOL).

In the end, the opponent from Paderborn clearly won with 3.5: 0.5.

Only Moosburg's captain Mathias Schwenck had scored a draw against Robert Prieb - and got the team from Dreirosenstadt on the scoreboard with half a point.

“The opponent in the final was a size too strong”, analyzed the 51-year-old captain after the final.

“Only Almir Azemovic had a real chance of scoring a victory point.

But the way the rest of the games went, we would have lost on board one if we had won.

Because the games in positions two and three were only close at the beginning, but then both players were quickly lost. "Schwenck continues:" Just as I never had the feeling in the semifinals that we could lose, this time I had it Feeling that there is no way we can win this.

The Paderborn team were really good and it was not without good reason that they clearly won all their games. "

Mathias Schwenck gets a draw for Moosburg

The final against East Westphalia started curiously, because SCM actor Almir Azemovic seemed to have been delayed.

In any case, Paderborn's Niklas Schlangenotto had to wait more than seven minutes before his opponent brought the first move with the white pieces onto the board.

The first points were awarded on the fourth board that evening: Schwenck had prepared a nice variant, which his opponent destroyed after only seven moves.

After that, the game was very tactical, but also reasonably balanced.

Despite one pawn less, the Moosburg captain built a so-called draw swing with his king on H4 after 37 moves.

His opponent Robert Prieb saw it that way and offered the draw, which Schwenck gladly accepted.

The interim draw, however, only lasted for a short time: Luis Hobmeier had to admit defeat on board three to the most successful player in the league, Noah Stirnberg.

The Paderborn celebrated their ninth victory in their tenth game.

Even getting into the finals was a great success

With the residue, the pressure on the two remaining Moosburgers increased. Azemovic's success in particular would have been important. After the short break at the beginning, the 35-year-old Serb put his opponent, who had played a very active game, into time trouble. Therefore, Paderborn's Niklas Schlangenotto offered the draw after 21 moves. Moosburg's number one had one more pawn at this point and wanted to get the victory point because of the events on the other boards. But shortly afterwards - the two opponents had just swapped women - Azemovic made a careless mistake that cost him a tower. After 31 moves, the Moosburger had to give up. The counter went to Schlangenotto, Paderborn went unassailable with 2.5: 0.5 in the front. This made the decision easier for Matthias Melcherto give up his almost hopeless game against Moritz Brockhoff.

This ended the playoff final in the 4th division between SK Paderborn I and SC Moosburg with 3.5: 0.5 for East Westphalia.

Mathias Schwenck believes that this is not a broken leg: “We certainly didn't expect that we would even reach the finals.

It was already a success for us that we now got three extra laps up to the final.

Of course we would have liked to have won that too - but the most important thing for me was that we played an active chess competition again. "
