Joachim Löw can fall back on a larger pool of players at his last tournament as national coach.
The Executive Committee of the European Football Union (Uefa) has decided to increase the squad for the European Football Championship from 23 to 26 players due to the ongoing corona pandemic.
This is to reduce the risk that teams cannot play a game because of quarantine measures.
However, the change only applies to the tournament as a whole.
In the individual games, only 23 players are allowed to stand on the score sheet, three professionals have to take a seat in the stands.
However, this can be different players from match to match.
Three goalkeepers are required in the 23 roster for the individual games.
The coaches of the 24 teams have to announce their positions for the EM (June 11th to July 11th) by June 1st.
However, players who are seriously injured by then can still be replaced before a team's first game.
Changes are also possible in the event of a corona illness or the official order of quarantine measures.
According to the new rules, keepers can even be replaced during the tournament.
