Basketball: Bayern Munich are eliminated from the EuroLeague

The basketball players of FC Bayern just missed the final four of the Euroleague.

The Bundesliga club lost the fifth game of the best-of-five quarter-finals at Armani Milan 89:92 (40:50).

Munich could not crown their season in the European premier class with a participation in the final tournament in Cologne at the end of May.

For coach Andrea Trinchieri's team, 19 points from Jalen Reynolds and 17 points from Wade Baldwin as well as a strong catch-up in the final minute were not enough.

For the so experienced Milanese, the former Frankfurt Bundesliga professional Shevon Shields stood out with 34 points.

Bayern were the first German team ever to qualify for the play-offs of the European premier class.

There, the team of coach Trinchieri had lost the first two games in Milan, but then reported back with two wins in their own hall.

The last minute will be gripping

Previously, Anadolu Istanbul had won game five against Real Madrid 88:83 and thus secured participation for the Cologne final tournament (May 28th to 30th).

CSKA Moscow and FC Barcelona are also there.

Bayern got off to a strong start in the Mediolanum Forum, leading 8: 2 and 14: 9, but then gave up the lead in the final phase of the first quarter and never got it back.

Milan moved away to 16 points in the third quarter, the team of coach icon Ettore Messina seemed safe.

But Bayern did not give up: After Wade Baldwin's 89:91 14 seconds before the end, the sensation was palpable again.

But it remained with the victory of the Italians.
