Belgian Elise Mertens qualified for the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open tennis tournament after defeating Romanian Simona Halep.
It took Mertens about two and a half hours to defeat her Romanian rival Halep and decided the result of the match in her favor in two sets of one, with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 5-7.
In the next round, the Belgian will face the Belarusian Arena Sabalenka, who in turn defeated American Jessica Bigula.
