It will also only be available on the equipment manufacturer's site before being put on sale "in most Decathlon stores in France", explains the brand in a press release.
Its advertised recommended retail price: 9 euros.
The sports mask, which respects the specifications drawn up by Afnor at the start of the year, will allow physical activity to be practiced both outdoors and indoors while protecting yourself from Covid-19.
Decathlon, which initially announced that it wanted to communicate on the marketing of masks "possibly at the end of the first quarter", has fallen behind several of its competitors in the field.
Salomon marketed a mask suitable for outdoor sports in February.
The Vosges company Ceramiq put an indoor model on sale in March.
Launched in view of the reopening of sports halls
Decathlon, however, launches its mask in the wake of the deconfinement announcements made by Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Parisien-Today in France on Wednesday. The tenant of the Elysée has announced that the sports halls, closed since the fall, will be able to open again from June 9. The mask will be compulsory there when going from one machine to another and the gauge will be set at 35% of the site's capacity.
“To date, the Decathlon sports barrier mask has been designed and tested for individual non-contact sports, outdoor and indoor,” explains the brand. Regarding other sports practices (team sports, contact sports), the design teams are preparing to test this mask in real conditions and are available to Federations and authorities wishing to work on its approval.
