Handball Bundesliga: Simon Hald fights with a jersey, Flensburg

2021-05-06T14:25:36.907Z

In the final minute, the handball players of the SG Flensburg-Handewitt in Göppingen led. The fact that they still lost their championship lead was due to a jersey breakdown. And a misunderstanding with the referees.

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt has lost the table lead in the handball Bundesliga.

At Frisch Auf Göppingen, the North Germans did not get past a 28:28 (15:15).

The Flensburg team fought their way back after a six-goal deficit and were in the lead shortly before the end.

However, Göppingen's Marcel Schiller equalized 40 seconds before the final siren with a seven meter.

Especially the development of the seven meter sparked discussions after the game.

Flensburg's Simon Hald Jensen had torn his shirt and was just putting on a new one on the sideline when the referees started the game again.

With the jersey over his head, Hald ran back to the field, then only slipped it down as a makeshift and defended, as it were, without a belly.

The Göppingen took advantage of the confusion, caught Hald on the wrong foot and forced the seven meter.

Flensburg coach Maik Machulla said after the game at Sky that the referees were not obliged to wait for the player.

"But if he tells the player and us that he is waiting, I also expect him to wait." The decision was "bitter," said Machulla.

Kiel takes over the top of the table

Especially since THW Kiel won 31:25 (16:12) at HC Erlangen in the parallel game and took the lead from Flensburg.

The two championship rivals are tied at 47: 5 points, and there are still twelve game days to go.

Kiel and Flensburg shared the championships of the past three years.

With the point in Göppingen, the people of Flensburg got away quite well.

More than nine minutes of play passed between the 15:12 (26th minute) and the next Flensburg goal (36th), Göppingen had scored eight times in the meantime and placed at 20:15.

Göppingen's goalkeeper Urh Kastelic parried outstandingly at times.

"For the first ten minutes after the break, we basically threw the game away," said Machulla.

The people of Flensburg do not have too much breather, however, as they meet HSG Wetzlar on Saturday (8.30 p.m., TV: Sky).

Kiel has to go to Füchsen Berlin on Sunday (1.30 p.m.).
