Hertha BSC has achieved an important victory in the Bundesliga relegation battle.

With the 3-0 (2-0) against SC Freiburg, the Berliners leave the relegation places.

Krzysztof Piątek (13th minute), Peter Pekarík (22nd) and Nemanja Radonjic (85th) scored the goals.

In the twelfth game after the return of coach Pál Dárdai it is the third win, the last time there had been three draws in a row.

After the draw in Mainz, Dárdai changed his starting line-up to nine positions, only Mattéo Guendouzi and goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow remained in the team.

After a two-week corona quarantine, the Berliners only returned to the game on Monday, the players had only trained individually during that time.

Hertha looked more stable against Freiburg than in Mainz, hardly once Freiburg made it dangerously in front of the goal.

And because the defense was not fully used, she took part in the offensive game: Left-back Jordan Torunarigha simply closed after an advance into the opposing half from around 20 meters. Keeper Florian Müller could not fend off the ball sufficiently to the side, Piątek dusted off (13th). A right-back sneaked forward in Berlin's 2-0: Pekarik headed a flank from the strong winger Radonjic into the goal (22nd minute).

Freiburg got better in the second round, especially over Ermedin Demirović.

Schwolow saved the greatest chances against his ex-club, first against a header (48th), then against a direct decrease by Demirović (62nd).

On the other hand, substitute Matheus Cunha missed an earlier decision (73rd) before Radonjic scored his team's third goal by dribbling in the penalty area (85th).

From the penultimate rank, the capitals jump to 14th place. With one game less than the competition in the relegation battle, they are tied with the relegation rank on which Bielefeld is now.

The new penultimate Cologne has one point less.

Freiburg remains ninth in the secured midfield.
