Nantes-Bordeaux: the Atlantic derby and (especially) the fear match

2021-05-09T00:12:14.606Z

This Saturday (1:00 p.m.), Nantes and Bordeaux, two giants of French football clash at La Beaujoire. The stake is simple: their survival in Ligue 1

With three games to go this season, the fight for retention promises to be as exciting as the fight for the title.

Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lorient, Nantes and Nîmes will fight to the end not to accompany Dijon, already relegated to Ligue 2.

Nantes in good shape

The Canaries are quite confident at the moment. Indeed, the Nantes have just chained two consecutive victories, a first this season. Victorious of PSG at the Parc des Princes on March 14 (1-2), Antoine Kombouaré's men had failed to improve this success and had chained four matches without a win (2 defeats and 2 draws). Now on the strength of these two straight wins away (1-2 in Strasbourg and 1-4 in Brest), the Nantes residents are approaching the reception of Bordeaux more calmly this Saturday. 18th with 34 points, the Canaries are obliged to win to, at first, take 5 points ahead of Nîmes, 19th, and also, to put pressure on Lorient, 17th who is playing in Lyon this Saturday at 17 o'clock. On the other hand,Nantes perform poorly at home with only two victories this season at La Beaujoire, the last one dating from October 18 (3-1 against Brest).

Bordeaux breathes

The last few weeks in Gironde have been nightmarish, both in sport and in extra-sporting terms.

On the field, the Scapulars could not do it anymore with a series of 12 defeats in 14 matches while behind the scenes, it was the tragedy.

Indeed, the American shareholder King Street had announced a few days ago that he was withdrawing from the Girondins de Bordeaux leaving the club in the most total uncertainty.

However, the Bordelais stopped the bleeding last Sunday by offering themselves a victory against Rennes (1-0), a success that did a lot of good to the Girondins.

Now 15th with 39 points, Bordeaux must ride this weekend victory, this Saturday in Nantes, so as not to tremble until the end this season.

The situation of the two clubs "makes pity" for Kombouaré

At the beginning of the century, Nantes-Bordeaux would surely have been a poster between top clubs, but today these two monuments of French football are in a difficult situation sporting.

A situation that saddened Antoine Kombouaré at a press conference on Thursday.

“It hurts.

It is even pitiful.

I say it with my words.

However, when we see the budgets of the two teams in comparison with those of Paris, Monaco, Lyon, Lille, even Rennes, it is difficult to fight.

Today, it would be a surprise to see one of these teams play at the top of the table.

Afterwards, we can create surprises….

But yes, it's sad to see these teams like that. ”
