Neymar has extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2025.

The French football club announced.

A move back to FC Barcelona and his former offensive partner Lionel Messi is off the table.

Neymar's current contract was valid until June 30, 2022.

The South American moved from Barcelona to the French capital city club in August 2017 for the record transfer fee of 222 million euros.

There were many speculations about a possible departure of Neymar.

With the new contract for the now 29-year-old 103-time Brazilian international, PSG has also set an example for the future in the fight with the other top European clubs. Last year, the Parisians reached the Champions League final for the first time under coach Thomas Tuchel, but lost to Bayern Munich. Most recently, Neymar and his teammates were eliminated in the semi-finals against Manchester City after they had knocked out Bayern in the quarter-finals - also thanks to a brilliant Neymar.

"It is a great pleasure to extend the adventure at Paris Saint-Germain," Neymar is quoted on the PSG website.

He believes in the PSG project and is hoping for many more titles.

In 112 appearances for PSG, the offensive player scored 85 goals and 51 assists, and the Parisians also won three Ligue 1 championships since joining the club.

In addition to Neymar, his striker colleague Kylian Mbappé is also expected to extend in Paris.

The 22-year-old French world champion has also been playing for PSG since summer 2017, but was initially only loaned from AS Monaco before he was signed for 120 million euros after a year.

There are also numerous rumors of change about Mbappé.

However, it is unclear how many clubs can afford the transfer fees for professionals like Neymar and Mbappé in view of the corona pandemic.
