Damit es gelingt, hat der Trainer an seinen Abläufen von vor dem Leipzig-Spiel weitestgehend festgehalten. „Wir sind da in der gleichen Grundrichtung geblieben“, sagte Kohfeldt, der seine Mannschaft nicht mit zu vielen taktischen Feinheiten überfrachten, sondern lieber die Mentalität in den Vordergrund stellen möchte. Die eigenen Stärken stärken, an sie glauben und sich daran festhalten. Auch das dient bei Werder Bremen dem Zweck Zuversicht.
An der nackten Nachricht, dass Ömer Toprak in der Reha einen Rückschlag erlitten hat und nun womöglich bis Saisonende ausfällt, gab es zwar beim besten Willen nichts Positives, Kohfeldt rang aber auch ihr einen zumindest kleinen Mutmacher ab: „Wir haben gegen Leipzig auch ohne Ömer ein gutes Spiel gemacht.“ Das soll sich gegen Bayer Leverkusen wiederholen, mit besserem Ergebnis versteht sich.
