At his peak Van Leven stood at 95 percent success in the league. Unusual figure. Out of 14 games, he won 13 and only one against Bnei Yehuda ended in a draw. He led Maccabi Tel Aviv to victories over Maccabi Haifa in Bloomfield and Hapoel Beer Sheva in Turner and also won tough away draws in the State Cup. But since the Tel Aviv derby on the eve of the playoffs Van Leven has dropped to 80 percent success in the league in total because the balance in the last seven games is dismal with only 48 percent success. Maccabi Tel Aviv lost its engine in Money Time One Leven has so far not found the solutions for it.

Van Leven reached the position of coach on December 24 this season after making it clear to Mitch Goldhaar that he could meet this task at the end of Donis' short tenure. People forget, but a Maccabi Haifa victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in Bloomfield in the second round would have opened up an 11-point gap between the teams and it is not certain that Maccabi Tel Aviv had the strength to close that gap.
Van Leven is responsible for the great comeback that Maccabi Tel Aviv made and the fact that at the end of such a season it is still in a struggle against the talented Maccabi Haifa, is also credited to him.
But in the moment of truth, when it took one last effort and especially a lot of creativity, he was not there.

In all of Goldhaar's years at Maccabi Tel Aviv, he did not let a coach who did not bring him a championship continue.
