Watch a report from the Netherlands about the robbery at the home of Eran Zehavi (Moran Zelikovich, Amsterdam)

Last night (Sunday), the Dutch media consistently and anxiously followed the violent robbery affair at Eran Zehavi's home in Amsterdam.

The star of the Israeli national team is a rather colorful figure in the Dutch landscape, and he receives frequent coverage as one of the most prominent footballers in the country, but this time the commotion around him was completely different.

The area where Eran and Shai Zehavi live with their three children in the Bautenfeldt neighborhood, an affluent neighborhood in the south of the city, has a relatively Jewish-Israeli character.

The shocking case has raised many questions and concerns among some Jews in the Netherlands, wondering whether the case is related to being Israeli and perhaps an act of anti-Semitism, but most Israelis we have spoken to here since the incident feel safe.

Tamir Dotan, who lives in Amstelveen, not far from Zehavi's place of residence, told Walla! Sports: "I do not think it has to do with being Israeli or Jewish. I can leave the door open and nothing happens. There are occasional break-ins, but what happened here is something very unusual. Such a thing did not happen with a football player in the Netherlands, and also for a home robbery "It was perceived as a very unusual event. The focus is on people with money."

"Of course I can not completely deny that it is because of Zahavi's origin, but I do not think that is the case," Dotan added. "They know he earns a lot, and he does not hide it. If the goal is just to steal then go to a fancy house. I really want to believe that it has nothing to do with being Israeli, I will be very sorry if that is the reason and not money. There's no one ... I do remember cases of celebrities who robbed Rolex watches, and six months ago there was a similar robbery at the house of a well-known singer named Gordon, so it seems to me that they are going after celebrities. The Dutch police are conducting an investigation to locate the burglars, when detective units and kennels scanned the area in combination with a police helicopter, and Zahavi and his wife arrived at the police station to testify.

The Dutch media noted that the robbers may have followed Zahavi's accounts on social media in order to gather information about his home.

According to the Hate Parole newspaper, the robbers entered the house under the guise of emissaries.

They tied Zehavi's wife with gun threats in front of their children, violently cut her hair and even attacked her eight-year-old son.

As you may recall, at that time Eran was on his way to PSV Eindhoven's away game against Willem II, when he received a hair-raising phone call from his agitated wife in the midst of the robbery.

They wanted to win for him.

The sports newspaper "Football-Zone" focused on what happened to PSV players, who heard the conversation between Zehavi and his wife on the way to the field, which took place in Hebrew but with passion and anxiety, and left no doubt that something very bad was happening. Zehavi of course said goodbye to his friends when they arrived at the opponent's stadium and hurried back to Amsterdam, and coach Roger Schmidt explained to his players in detail what had happened to the Israeli striker, allowing them to call their families to demand their safety.

After the game, in which PSV won 0: 2, the German coach revealed that the players promised to dedicate the game to Zahavi: "After talking to our families we tried to focus on the game, and we wanted to win for Eran." By then this victory had already been achieved, and now the Zehavi family hopes that the Amsterdam police will be able to get their hands on the burglars who shook their world at once.

Meanwhile, the Jewish community in the city tried to cheer with flowers and greeting cards received from the family member who responded: "We conveyed the heartwarming messages, the Zehavi family appreciates and thanks for the care and goodwill, hoping for good and quiet days."
