French Open champion Ija Chiantec won two matches in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the Italian Open in two straight sets today to qualify to face ninth-seeded Karolina Pliskova in the final.
The former world number one, Pliskova, who won the title in 2019, reached the final for the third year in a row after winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 over Petra Martic.
Chiantik's last-eight match against Elena Svitolina was postponed due to the rain yesterday, but the 19-year-old quickly overtook her more experienced opponent, winning 6-2 7-5 to qualify for a match against Coco Gove in the semifinals.
Chiantik then secured the final after a 7-6 6-3 victory over the 17-year-old American.
The world number 15 Chiantik dreams of beating Pleskova tomorrow to claim the title and entering the list of the top ten players in the world rankings.
