The Bundesliga softball women of the Freising Grizzlies are in top form against Karlsruhe.
The results are proof of a strong team performance.
Freising
- Good weather and great fun: These were the best conditions for the home game day of the Bundesliga women of the Freising Grizzlies on Sunday in Attaching. The softball players competed against the Cougars from Karlsruhe - and compared to the previous games against the Tübingen Hawks, they made a significant improvement both in terms of play and mentality. This was also evident in the results: The Grizzlies won 7: 1 and 12: 4 - and thus climbed to second place in the Bundesliga South with 3: 1 wins. The front runners are the Stuttgart Reds, who have won all of their four matches.
In the first game, Mara Sandner started as a pitcher.
She immediately put the Cougars' first batter under pressure and sent her off with a strikeout.
But at the next batter she threw four balls in a row, so that she walked to first base.
A colorful ball and a ball from catcher Rebecca Hillebrand gave the guests the first point.
Home run by Fiona Brosch
The hosts' response was not long in coming: Sandner started as the first batter and came on first base.
Hillebrand then sacrificed himself with her blow so that Sandner could run "home" and secure the 1: 1 equalization for the Grizzlies.
And then the highlight of the game followed: Fiona Brosch, who had already attracted attention in the past with strong hits, hit the ball over the fence - home run!

With a 2-1 lead, the Grizzlies went into the second inning. Sandner shook off her initial troubles and delivered one strikeout after another. And if it didn't work out, you could rely on your teammates: The girls' interaction worked perfectly - right up to the end. Targeted blows such as by Shaya Raziorrouh, Lioba Biswas and Chiara Steffen helped the Freising Grizzlies to a sovereign 7: 1 success in the end.
At the beginning of the second encounter, Fiona Brosch started as a pitcher.
Her sister Franca acted as a catcher - and shone in the first inning with a very strong play: A runner from the Cougars tried to steal second base.
Franca Brosch saw through the plan immediately and targeted shortstop Lioba Biswas.
She caught the ball, tagged the runner and turned her off.
But as in the first meeting, the Karlsruhe women went with a counter from the first inning.
Grizzlies make everything clear early on
But the Grizzlies went straight to work in the following years and secured one score after the other. The team made life difficult for the Cougars and hit directly in the gaps. Coupled with aggressive base running, the Freising took the lead and pulled away to 8: 1. The guests from Karlsruhe managed to score three points on their tableau with strong blows into the outfield. But the Grizzlies were able to move up a gear and scored another four points.
With a lead of 12: 4, the Freising went into the fifth inning, in which Shaya Raziorrouh came up as the pitcher. The young player made her first appearance this season in this position and made short work of her opponents. Two outs were already on the books for the Grizzlies - and the third followed immediately: Raziorrouh threw the ball, her opponent knocked it back to her directly. The ball dropped on her glove, only to find a taker in Teresa Vanah two meters behind her. A brilliant fly-out that brought the Grizzlies their second victory. It stayed at 12: 4, the game ended prematurely according to the so-called Mercy Rule.
The Grizzlies celebrated their first double victory in this point round.
"Mentally it was a completely different number than last time," said player Chiara Steffen.
"We got into the game physically and mentally." Matchday coach Nico Steffen could only agree with her: "I am proud of the team and extremely satisfied."
