1. FC Union Berlin is allowed to play its last game of this season in the Bundesliga for the first time since the end of October 2020 in front of spectators.
Up to 2000 fans can attend the match against RB Leipzig this Saturday (3:30 p.m.) in the An der Alten Försterei stadium, if the incidence figures in the capital remain as low as they are currently (68.6) in the coming days.
This was confirmed by the Berlin Senate Department for the Interior and Sport.
The Union's hygiene concept provides "mandatory testing for all stadium visitors," it said in a press release.
This does not apply to people who have been fully vaccinated or who have recovered from a corona disease.
Tickets are awarded by lottery among the club members who are in possession of a season ticket.
The approval is "subject to the condition that the pandemic allows it."
The risk situation is continuously checked.
Last time in October fans in the Bundesliga
Union announced on Sunday that it had submitted an application for a pilot project to return viewers during the corona pandemic.
For the team of coach Urs Fischer, as seventh in the table in the last league game against Leipzig, it is still about qualifying for the new European Conference League.
Most recently, Union played against SC Freiburg (1: 1) in front of spectators on October 24, 2020.
4500 fans were present in the arena in the Berlin district of Köpenick, which normally holds around 22,000 people.
The so far last Bundesliga game with fans in the stands was the 2-1 VfL Wolfsburg against Arminia Bielefeld one day later.
Similar plans by the relegation-threatened 1. FC Cologne and champions Bayern Munich for the 34th matchday are not working as things stand, because the incidence values in the respective cities do not allow this.
In the second division, Hansa Rostock is hoping for spectators in the game against Lübeck on Saturday (1.30 p.m.).
»The point is to take possible crowds of fans into the stadium in front of the stadium.
Here we promise ourselves a targeted and better control of the stream of spectators, «said Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU).
The cabinet will make a decision on Tuesday.
In March, Hansa was allowed to let 702 spectators into the stadium against Halleschen FC, but after that the incidence values rose again.
