Marcel Schrötter achieved his best result of the season so far at the French Grand Prix.

The German Moto2 rider struggled anyway, because the performance was not what he wanted.

Le Mans - Right next to Marcel Schrötter, the big jubilee party was announced.

When the Vilgertshofener's team mate, Tony Arbolino, returned to the pits of the “Liqui Moly Intact GP” team after the French Grand Prix, he was greeted and hugged enthusiastically by his mechanics and other crew members.

In fourth place, the Italian had his best result to date in the Moto2 class.

The reception for Schrötter, who had parked his Kalex machine right next to it, was a bit more businesslike.

But the German also had a strong result on the “Circuit Bugatti” course in Le Mans, France.

Schrötter raced across the finish line in sixth place - for him it was the best result of the season to date.

The Vilgertshofener himself was rather moderately enthusiastic: “I'm not completely happy, even if we weren't unlucky today.

I'm disappointed that I was too slow after all. ”Marcel Schrötter's deficit on the leading group, in which his team-mate Arbolino was involved, was around eight seconds at half the race distance.

"The whole weekend we had a competitive pace and moved in the ranges of 1: 36.8 and 1: 37.2 minutes - like everyone else," said the German.

The fact that he then gradually lost time in the race "is surprising".

The gap to winner Raul Fernandez (Spain) was almost 28 seconds in the end.

Schrötter stays on the machine in difficult conditions

Schrötter started the race from 14th on the grid. Low temperatures and rain had a negative impact on practice and qualifying. It stayed dry during the race. At the beginning, parts of the route were still damp. Numerous pilots crashed, especially in the first laps. Schrötter benefited from the failures. When 13 of the 25 laps remained to be completed, it was in sixth place. However, the gap to the top group was considerable.

In the further course, Schrötter dueled with various competitors and fell back to ninth place. With four laps to go, he had worked his way back up to sixth position. In the last two laps he went as the leader of a group of seven pilots. “My rear tire deteriorated enormously towards the end, which was not the case in the training sessions,” said Schrötter. So shaking was announced until the end. In the last corner Schrötter still had to fend off the attack by Japanese Ai Ogura - which he did skillfully. “Our two drivers did a great job. There was so little grip on the track, ”said team manager Jürgen Lingg on“ Servus TV ”. “I'm happy for Marcel that he won the duel in the end.” With 30 points, Schrötter is now eighth in the World Cup.
