SCAN SPORT - The Manchester United midfielder waved the Palestinian flag at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

French midfielder Paul Pogba showed his support for the Palestinians by circling the pitch with their flag along with his Ivorian teammate Amad Diallo on Tuesday after a match against Fulham for Matchday 37 of the Premier League.

The meeting marked the return of the public to the stadiums in the English Championship and around 10,000 people were in the stands at Old Trafford.

After the final whistle and the 1-1 draw with Fulham, Pogba and Diallo circled the pitch, each holding an upper corner of the flag and applauding towards the stands. On Saturday, after Leicester's FA Cup victory against Chelsea at Wembley (1-0), the French defender of the Foxes, Wesley Fofana, and his midfielder, the Englishman Hamza Choudhury, also sported the Palestinian flag. The demonstrations of support come as a new round of violence has erupted between Israel and groups in Gaza.

In nine days, 3,500 rockets were fired by Palestinian Hamas, about 90% of which were intercepted by the Israeli anti-aircraft defense system, according to the military.

Since the start of armed hostilities, 213 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, including at least 61 children, and more than 1,440 injured, according to a Palestinian record.

In Israel, twelve people were killed, including a child, and 294 injured by rocket fire.
