No more DFB boss, but at least not condemned as a result: Fritz Keller

After his resignation as DFB President, Fritz Keller will no longer be prosecuted by the sports court of the German Football Association for his Nazi statement.
The ethics chamber of the committee has discontinued the procedure with the approval of the ethics committee, announced the DFB.
The 64-year-old escaped a possible ban with the decision last Monday to resign.
»Fritz Keller himself drew the consequences of the leadership crisis at the DFB and thus assumed responsibility for the DFB's damaged image, for which he is certainly not solely responsible. This means that sanctions are no longer necessary, ”said the chairman of the sports court, Hans E. Lorenz.
Keller had called his Vice President Rainer Koch "Freisler" during a board meeting at the end of April. Roland Freisler was chairman of the People's Court under National Socialism. "This behavior by Fritz Keller constitutes an offense and constitutes a serious violation of the DFB's code of ethics. In the event that Fritz Keller had not resigned, the sports court would have considered a temporary ban on his function," said Lorenz. "Such a measure would now be in vain."
The case was heard last Friday, and three days later, Keller completed his announced resignation.
The office of DFB President is "one of the most difficult to fill in Germany," said Lorenz.
"What is needed are personalities who are willing and able to trust amateurs and professionals, volunteers and full-time positions."
