Europa League final: Paul Pogba's return to form after a complicated season

2021-05-25T02:51:19.316Z

Opposed to Villarreal in the Europa League final on Wednesday, Manchester United can count on the return to form of Paul Pogba. Undermined by injuries this season, the French have shown an impressive level of play since the end of his troubles in March.

“La Pioche” is rediscovering its colors at the end of the season. Relegated to a luxury replacement role by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the start of the season, Paul Pogba returns to form as Manchester United face Vilarreal in the Europa League final on Wednesday. After having tasted the bench during the resumption of the English championship last September, the French had to make a long detour through the infirmary because of a capricious ankle. Cumulating more than two months of absence throughout this season, the former Juventus has regained full possession of his means, to the delight of Mancunians. Since March 18, the date of his return, Pogba has scored two goals, all in C3, and delivered six assists in all competitions, in 13 games.

It is in particular in the Europa League that he distinguished himself.

Author of the goal of qualifying in the round of 16 return to San Siro against AC Milan (1-0), the midfielder gets his feet wet in this competition.

In mid-April, he delivered an assist in the return quarter-final against Granada (2-0), then he scored a goal against AS Rome, two weeks later, during the slap in the face from the English (6 -2).

Villarreal will have to be wary of the world champion, left to rest last weekend during the victory of the Red Devils against Wolverhampton (2-1), especially since he has already scored in the C3 final.

In 2017, he opened the scoring against Ajax and launched his team on the path to the first Europa League in the history of the club.

An eccentric role

Positioned in a fairly versatile role, between the midfielder and the left winger, Paul Pogba therefore performs a series of performances at the height of the immense talent that we know him. “I've been feeling a lot better for some time. I'm getting used to this 8 off center position, ”he said after Manchester's demonstration against Roma. The Frenchman has clearly won back his Norwegian coach who makes him again an indisputable holder in the 4-2-3-1 Mancunian. Omnipresent on the lawn, it seems to have regained all its quality with the ball at the foot and its ease in conservation. Taking the ball from him is very complicated while he keeps his formidable propensity for the penultimate pass, initiating breakable and decisive transmissions.

No doubt he will be one of the many problems facing Villarreal players.

With Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, the defense of the Yellow Submarine will have a lot to do and channeling all these beautiful people will not be a piece of fun.

Paul Pogba's return to form is also excellent news for the France team, three weeks before the Blues' first match at Euro 2020, against Germany on June 15.

The Mancunien is used to transcending when he puts on the tricolor jersey.

A good omen for Didier Deschamps.
