The World Cyclists' Association announced today (Friday) that all the prize-winning prizes to be held today as part of the Giro d'Italia will be handed over to the families of the dead and the only survivor, 5-year-old Eitan Biran, in the Alps cable car disaster about a week ago.
"The riders have unanimously decided to donate all the cash prizes to little Eitan and the families affected by this terrible tragedy," the riders' association said in an official statement.

Among the 14 killed in the disaster were the couple Amit and Tal Biran and their two-year-old son Tom, residents of Fabia in the country, and Yitzhak and Barbara Cohen, Tal's grandparents, residents of Tel Aviv who came to visit them.
Nine more Italians perished as the caravan sank about 20 meters a short distance from the summit of Mount Matrona in the Alps.
Eitan, the five-year-old son of the Biran couple who survived the disaster that happened on Sunday, is still hospitalized in Turin hospital in a very serious condition, being anesthetized and respirated after surgery.
Next to him is his aunt Aya, Amit's sister, a doctor who has lived in Italy for many years.
According to media reports in Italy, doctors are expressing cautious optimism about his brain condition, and according to an MRI scan it appears that he was not harmed.
Because of this, they will try to wake him up today from the anesthesia.
In Italy, an investigation is underway into the disaster and authorities are trying to understand why the car's emergency brake did not work.
At the same time, Pope Francis said he was sending his condolences to the families of the dead and "praying for little Ethan."
