The legendary assistant coach spoke in an interview about his relationship with future coach Julian Nagelsmann and his future plans.

However, Gerland gave a small outlook on his future goals.
“I will be going back to the soccer business again.
But I will no longer be an assistant coach and I will no longer be a coach, ”says Gerland, thus closing a big chapter of his life.
He sat on the sidelines as an assistant at FC Bayern * for more than a decade, although in his long career he had already worked as head coach at large clubs such as 1. FC Nürnberg or Arminia Bielefeld.

Gerland does not want to rule out the possibility that he will follow his last head coach Hansi Flick when he moves to the DFB.
“Will I do something at the DFB?
Who knows.
I haven't had any conversations with anyone, ”he says.
Otherwise he only had words of praise for Flick.
"I understand very well that Oliver Bierhoff wanted him to be the national coach," says the 'Tiger' about the successful coach's job change.

When the separation between Gerland and his FC Bayern became known, it was initially suspected that the future Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann would not find a use for the 66-year-old.
Nagelsmann himself denied the rumors * and made it clear that he was not responsible for the assistant's departure.
With another story, Gerland also underpinned Nagelsmann's statements, with whom the Bayern icon maintains a good relationship.

Gerland revealed: “Five years ago he asked me if I would like to be his assistant coach in Hoffenheim.
I canceled because I was with Bayern, the best club with the best coaches.
Why should I have left there? ”Gerland also describes the 33-year-old as a“ first-class coach ”and doesn't seem to hold a grudge against him.
Nagelsmann would obviously have had no objection to integrating the experienced man into his coaching team.
