It's called a feat: beating the best team in Europe, therefore in the world, on its territory, in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

A major feat.

The girls from Brest did it this Saturday afternoon.

They defeated the Hungarian Györ, triple title holders, after a penalty shootout (4-2, 23-23 after extra time) in Budapest.

Brest is the first French women's club to qualify for the C1 final, where Metz had failed in previous years.

The Brest club will face in the final this Sunday either the Russians from CSKA Moscow or the Norwegians from Kristiansand who challenge each other this Saturday at the end of the afternoon.

By eliminating the big favorite Györ, a team led by the former Parisian Stine Oftedal considered the best player on the planet and which sees its streak of 55 undefeated C1 games come to an end, Brest Bretagne Handball can dream of becoming the first French women's club to lift the most coveted trophy.

The Bretons could join Montpellier, the only club in France, European champion among men (2003 and 2018) while waiting for PSG to play in the Final Four on June 12 and 13 to do as well.

At the gates of the Grand Slam

At the end of a game with twists and turns, where the Brestoises led several times by four goals thanks to the stops of Cléopâtre Darleux before snatching the right to play extra time at the last second of regulation time, everything was decided during 'a session of jets of seven meters.

It was the Swede Bella Gullden, one of the stars of Brest, who managed the decisive shot.

The Brestoises, who have already won the Coupe de France this season against Nantes, then the French Championship by putting an end to the domination of Metz, are at the gates of an exceptional Grand Slam.
