Egan Bernal celebrates his finish in Milan

The Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal from Team Ineos Grenadiers has won the 104th Giro d'Italia and thus celebrated his second victory in a major tour after the Tour de France 2019.
In the final time trial to Milan, the 24-year-old was able to secure 24th place to defend his victory 1:29 minutes ahead of Italian Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious).
British rider Simon Yates (BikeExchange) took third place, 4:15 minutes behind.
“When I turned onto Domplatz, it was a very special moment.
I've seen Colombian flags everywhere, ”Bernal said.
“I didn't take too much risk in the corners today.
I didn't want to lose the Giro victory over the last 30 kilometers. "
For the second time after Nairo Quintana in 2014, a professional cyclist from Colombia with the pink jersey was on the final podium of the Tour of Italy.
Ganna takes last stage win
At the end of the Giro, Bernal's team-mate Filippo Ganna won the stage, the Italian time trial world champion prevailed with 12.1 seconds ahead of the French Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quick Step).
Bernal was 1:53 minutes behind.
The best German was Max Walscheid (Neuwied / Qhubeka) on a strong sixth place (+0: 33 minutes).
For the German professional cyclists, the Giro was mixed.
Podium candidate Emanuel Buchmann (Ravensburg / Bora-hansgrohe) retired after a fall on the 15th stage, outlier Nikias Arndt (Buchholz / DSM) impressed with two third stage places.
The former Slovenian world champion Peter Sagan secured a stage win and the points jersey for the German Bora team.
