The 17-year-old Cori "Coco" Gauff made her first round of 16 at the French Open.
After only 23 minutes of play, the match against the second of the Australian Open, Jennifer Brady, was over.
Brady was eliminated with a foot injury after losing the first set 6-1.
After medical treatment following the first sentence, she decided she couldn't go on.
Gauff then gave her competitor a hug.
Brady said after the game that she has had problems with her feet since the WTA in Rome in May, when she was also injured: “I thought about not playing here.
Until the day before it started.
So I thought I might as well try it.
Today I woke up and it was worse, I couldn't play my game, ”she said.
Gauff, who has reached the round of 16 of three of the four Grand Slams, will now face number 25 seeded Tunisian Ons Jabeur.
Alongside her, there are three other Americans: Serena Williams, Sloane Stephens and last year's runner-up Sofia Kenin.
Switolina failed, Swiatek continued flawless
With Jelina Switolina, the next title candidate was eliminated in the first week: The number five seeded Ukrainian lost her third-round game on Saturday against the Czech Barbora Krejcikova 3: 6, 2: 6.
This means that four of the five top-seeded players are no longer part of the second Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season.
Before Switolina, Ashleigh Barty and Aryna Sabalenka had been hit, Naomi Osaka had withdrawn.
Defending champion Iga Swiatek is still in the tournament, after a 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 0 against Estonian Anett Kontaveit without losing a set.
