Lukaku and Belgium dominate Croatia

2021-06-07T21:36:08.128Z

Thanks to a goal from their inevitable striker, Belgium beat the final World Cup finalist for their last repeat before the Euro.

Belgium, in full control, took over Croatia (1-0) and reassured itself during its final preparation match for the Euro (June 11 - July 11), Sunday evening in Brussels.

Four days after an unconvincing draw against Greece (2-2), Roberto Martinez's men applied themselves to overcome their opponents, who appeared lacking inspiration.

After the first ten muddled minutes, the Belgians set foot on the ball.

They were rewarded in the 38th with a goal from Romelu Lukaku in "surface fox" mode at the conclusion of a confused action.

This goal, the 60th in the selection of the goalscorer of Inter Milan, came to crown the excellent performance of the striker who has however often been weaned from good balls and who had created himself a first opportunity shortly before his goal. , by finding the opposing bar, after a series of high class.

Ten minutes for Hazard

Because in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne, the game of the Red Devils lacked verticality. A problem that risks being penalizing if the situation is repeated during the Euro. However, it is already certain that De Bruyne, who underwent a slight intervention in the orbit of the left eye on Saturday, will be absent in the first match on June 13 in Saint-Petersburg against Russia. The Manchester City playmaker, victim of broken nose and orbit in the Champions League final at the end of May, will join his teammates on Monday but does not yet know when he will be fit to play. The Red Devils will therefore have to start without him, without Axel Witsel (who is recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon) and perhaps without Eden Hazard.

The Real Madrid forward only appeared in the last ten minutes of Sunday's game and it seems unlikely that he will be ready to play a full game in a week's time yet.

Hazard, who remains in two injury-scarred seasons, is still chasing his best form.

Despite a good Luka Modric, the finalists of the last World Cup struggled.

They only put Thibaut Courtois in danger on a strike at the last minute.

Zlatko Dalic's players will have to raise their level of play if they want to worry England in their inaugural Euro match on June 13 in London.
