Euro 2021: Sergio Busquets positive for Covid-19, the Spanish selection in quarantine

Four days before the start of the Euro with the opening match between Turkey and Italy, the health crisis is already entering the competition. The Spanish federation has, in fact, announced in a press release that FC Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets (32) had tested positive for Covid-19. The captain of the Iberian selection has therefore left the rally, waiting to know if he could participate in the Euro. The rest of the delegation was placed in quarantine, while all other members tested negative. Those who have been in contact with Barca's midfielder will be placed in solitary confinement, with personalized training routines. "The appropriate sporting decisions will be assessed shortly depending on the evolution of the captain's health," said the Spanish Federation.

As a result, it is the Spanish Under-21s who will play the preparation match against Lithuania on Tuesday. The Iberians participated in the Euro finals in Slovenia and Hungary last week. After beating Croatia (2-1 ap) in the quarter-final, they lost in the semi-final against Portugal (0-1). Nine Spanish players summoned for the Euro have already contracted Covid-19 (Eric Garcia, José Luis Gaya, Aymeric Laporte, Thiago Alcantara, Fabian Ruiz, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres, Adama Traoré). Spain, which is in Group E (along with Sweden, Poland and Slovakia) are due to start their competition against Sweden on June 14 in Seville. The presence of Busquets is already very uncertain.
