AthléTV: a new application to see all athletics

2021-06-09T08:33:18.291Z

Thanks to a low-cost application, it is now possible to follow almost all national and international athletics competitions.

A little “athletics Netflix” for 4.99 euros per month… Interesting, isn't it?

This is what Sportall, a French digital platform, is offering, which is launching the app this Wednesday.

AthléTV, in partnership with the French Athletics Federation (FFA).

For its debut,

AthléTV offers the Marseille meeting this Wednesday evening, then the Diamond League meeting in Florence, this Thursday.

"This application constitutes a completely new offer that I helped the FFA and Sportall to put together," explains François Pesenti, member of Sportall's strategic committee.

It brings together all the events produced by the FFA or in partnership with it: all the French meetings, the Pro Athlé Tour, as well as 13 of the 14 meetings of the Diamond League, exclusively (

Editor's note: the Monaco meeting being traditionally broadcast on Canal +

).

Interviews, documentaries ...

The app in question will offer much more, as Pesenti explains: “A set of content mixing live, VOD, replay, various events, exclusive interviews, web-series, documentaries, reports, archives ... a real fan app, aimed at those who wish to see the great moments of the past, the best parts of a meeting or even anything related to Renaud Lavillenie, Kevin Mayer or Mélina Robert-Michon… ”

Operable from a mobile, a tablet or a computer, deportable to its television, AthléTV has also sealed a partnership with the channel L'Équipe.

“We wanted a little visibility on the free, explains Pesenti.

In return, this makes it possible to benefit from the promotional strength of the L'Équipe group.

The Team will also broadcast five to six major national events, out of the 40 to 50 generated each year.

In particular, the Meeting de Paris (Diamond League) at the end of August exclusively, as well as three other meetings of the Diamond League, these in co-broadcasting with AthléTV.

“In the end, this results in a hybrid broadcast of the competitions, with some highlights on the free and all on the paid app,” says Pesenti.

Gain momentum until the Paris Olympics

For the first year, the FFA has decided to offer the subscription to its some 300,000 licensees (49.99 euros per year for the entire offer), while L'Équipe will offer the app on its site, by granting a discount to its Internet users.

"What we are building with the FFA and Sportall is the rise of athletics towards Paris 2024," explains Pesenti.

Athletics being the first spectacle of the Games, the French athlete aims to provide the greatest performances and the biggest stars of the Paris Games.

Also, the challenge of this app and its content is to tell, to ensure the

storytelling

of this 2024 generation. ”

Beyond the Paris 2024 deadline, this type of initiative foreshadows the future of sports consumption. “Start-up and small French champion, Sportall is the archetype of the OTT platform (

Editor's note: Over The Top, which bypasses traditional operators to offer services directly to consumers via the Internet

) capable of offering tomorrow to each having rights, federation, league or club, the app and the media environment it needs to develop in digital, explains Pesenti, former CEO of RMC Sport. We are in the context of a change in the market. You had to pay 20 euros three or four times to get Canal +, BeIN, RMC and Eurosport. Today, fans prefer to target the sport they love and pay the right price for it. "

When will you get access to Ligue 1, Roland-Garros or the Top 14 through a simple dedicated paid app? "This is the meaning of history," Pesenti abounds. It is almost certain that in the medium or long term, we will get there… ”
