Al Karama Club announced that it has signed former international player Firas Al-Khatib as the coach of its men's football team for the upcoming football season.
In the previous season, Al Karama Club finished third in the Premier League, led by coach Ahmed Azzam.
Al-Khatib began his career as a player in Al-Karama Club, and this is his first training experience. Al-Khatib, the former player of the Syrian national football team, achieved first place in the Arab world and nineteenth globally in the list of the best scorers from 2001 to 2020, published by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
Al-Khatib scored 36 goals with the Syrian national team until his retirement at the end of 2019 in 72 international matches. He is the first Asian player and the seventh player in the world to participate with his country in six World Cup qualifiers, and the first Syrian player to score in four of these qualifiers, where he participated in the World Cup qualifiers Years 2002-2006-2010-2014-2018-2022.
Al-Khatib's professional journey in the world of football began in 2002, and he moved between Al-Nasr, Al-Araby, Al-Qadisiyah, Kuwait and Al-Salmiya clubs, in addition to his professionalism in Zakho, Iraq.
