After his eventful outing on the field in the Drôme, and the now famous slap in the face of Tain-l'Hermitage, Emmanuel Macron should experience a somewhat quieter visit this Thursday in the middle of the day. The President of the Republic is expected at Clairefontaine, the haunt of the Blues currently in full preparation for Euro 2021. Four days before their first match of the competition in Munich against Germany, the Head of State must have lunch with Hugo Lloris and his partners. He will be accompanied for the occasion by his wife Brigitte Macron and the press service of the Elysee Palace also announces the presence of Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, the body which manages football at the world level.

The President of the Republic and that of FIFA have had regular exchanges in recent years - in June 2019 and October 2020 in particular. A FIFA branch, born of these talks, should also see the light of day in Paris while an announcement to specify the contours of this project should take place shortly. Noël Le Graët, the president of the French Football Federation, close to Macron, will also attend this presidential trip. This is not the first time that the Head of State has paid a courtesy visit to the French players. He had already moved to Clairefontaine before the 2018 World Cup with his wife, and had received the world champions at the Elysee Palace the day after their coronation in Russia. He had also invited Kylian Mbappé to the presidential palace for a lunch with George Weah, former PSG striker, now President of the Republic of Liberia.
