The run of the US young hope has stopped: 17-year-old Cori "Coco" Gauff has missed her first Grand Slam semi-final.

At the French Open, she lost in the round of the best eight 6: 7, 3: 6 against Barbora Krejčíková.

For the 25-year-old Czech, who will now face the winner of the duel between Maria Sakkari and Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, it was her premiere in a quarter-finals of a major tournament.

For Gauff, despite her young age, it was already the seventh Grand Slam participation.

The match had actually started well for Gauff.

In the meantime, she was 3: 0, 5: 3 and 6: 4 in the tie-break ahead, but could not use the chances.

Krejčíková fended off five set balls and brought Gauff the first set loss of the tournament.

Gauff received a warning

Gauff now often stood completely beside him and became increasingly angry about her game.

After losing a service game, she smashed her racket in anger and received a warning from the referee.

Anyone who had already written off Gauff at this point in time would almost have been taught better.

Because at the end of the match her nerve strength returned.

She was able to fend off five match points.

Instead of going down 0: 6 in the second set, Gauff fought his way up to 3: 5.

But then Krejčíková could not take the sixth match point.
