Freising / Innsbruck

- Experience has shown that the first competition starts of the athletics season are always particularly exciting.

Neither as a coach nor as an athlete do you know exactly where you stand.

Even if training performance can provide the first indications, it is only after the first starting shot that it really becomes apparent whether the work of the last few months has paid off.

Accordingly, the young athletes Johanna Billmeir and Lina Bachmann and their trainer Gaby Hagl were relieved that the competition debut in 2021 was a success. In the absence of competition opportunities, which were still very rare in the Free State up until the recent easing, the three Freising women even accepted a journey to Innsbruck, Austria, for their start into the season. Johanna Billmeir (born in 2007) and Lina Bachmann (born in 2006) competed there in the 100 meter, long jump and triple jump disciplines in addition to being ranked at the Tyrolean Athletics Championships. "The results make me feel positive for the coming important weeks", is the first assessment of trainer Gaby Hagl.

In the long jump, the athletes of the LC Freising shone with new top performances.

Since Lina Bachmann was placed in the top eight after three attempts, she was allowed to make three additional attempts - as is usual in athletics - to determine the winner of the day.

In the sixth and last attempt, she sailed up to a strong 5.23 meters.

Only two Austrians were better that day.

Johanna Billmeir, who was a year younger than her, achieved 4.56 meters, which was enough to place in the top 10 in the field of 14 jumpers.

The successful qualification for the final fight had not only positive things for Lina Bachmann.

From long jump to sprint

Due to the tight schedule, the sprint and jump specialist hardly had time to prepare for the sprint after the horizontal jump. Shortly after changing shoes from jumping to sprinting spikes, it was already time to be ready for the 100 meters. It is therefore all the more remarkable that with 13.25 seconds she has already reached the speed level of summer 2020. While Lina Bachmann missed her personal best by a wafer-thin two hundredths of a second, Johanna Billmeir stayed exactly this value below her previous house record at this distance. For them the time measurement gave a result of 13.55 seconds. Triple jump experiment succeeded.

To make the 200-kilometer journey really worthwhile, the duo even took part in a third competition, the triple jump.

"We wanted to bring some variety to the training in the long training phase without starting competitions and so I taught the girls hop, step and jump," said trainer Gaby Hagl.

At 10.12 meters (Billmeir) and 10.96 meters (Bachmann), the premiere was more than promising.

Bachmann's performance is so good that it is above the benchmark for the Bavarian national squad, which is set at 10.80 meters.

So she should get an invitation after the season to join the select circle of Bayern's selection.

The next missions

After the competition is before the competition: This popular and often cited sportsman's wisdom, based on Sepp Herberger, also applies to track and field athletes in the district, especially in the weeks of the Corona restart. It will continue next weekend, when trainer Gaby Hagl has planned a double start. In addition to numerous other athletes from the LAG Mittlerer Isar (including Johannes Ehrhardt, Hannah Schreiber and Emilia Anneser, Lena Lipp and Inken Siebert), Johanna Billmeir and Lina Bachmann will start at the “restart meeting” in Munich's Dantestadion on Saturday. You want to measure yourself again over 100 meters with the local competition. In addition, Lina Bachmann will compete in the triple jump again. The next day, the first block competition of the year will take place for the young hopes.

The Upper Bavarian Championships in Emmering on Sunday are not just about fast times or decent distances, but for the first time championship honors in 2021. The 14-year-old Lana Pavic will also be back in action at both events.

The nation's third fastest sprinter over 100 meters in 2020 in her age group has not yet appeared due to a hip injury.

For the reasons mentioned at the beginning, the heart rate at the start of the season should be particularly high for both the athlete and the trainer.
