Ligue 2: with Thierry Laurey, Paris FC opens a new era

2021-06-12T17:51:16.984Z

Unless there is a rebound, the Parisian club will formalize the arrival of Thierry Laurey as coach. The former Strasbourg resident who will sign

At Paris FC, the lifespan of a coach remains limited.

Since Christophe Taine (2013-2015) no coach has managed to chain two full seasons on the bench.

Despite a contract until June 2022, René Girard, who arrived in January 2020 when the team was 19th in L2, has not escaped this instability.

In his case, it is not the rather positive sporting results (maintenance, 5th and jump-off) that are in question.

But rather a deterioration of its relations with its leaders and part of its group.

There were in particular tensions between some players and his son Nicolas, assistant coach.

As we announced, Thierry Laurey, 57, will become the 11th coach of Paris FC under the presidency of Pierre Ferracci, started in June 2012. According to our information, the contract is for two years (plus another optional in rising case).

Laurey comes accompanied by her assistant Fabien Lefèvre.

The former Montpellier attacking midfielder has been working with him since 2015 at Gazélec Ajaccio.

The formalization should not be long, the time to settle the last financial details of the separation from René Girard and his assistants (his son Nicolas and Gérard Bernardet).

The rest of the staff - Jeannot Akapko (physical trainer), Mickaël Boully (goalkeeper coach) and Romain Peyrusqué (assistant) - remain in place.

A coach with a builder profile

With the former Strasbourg resident, met on Tuesday, things were quickly settled. Parisian leaders were looking for a rather experienced coach capable of propelling the club to L1 within 2-3 years. After five seasons in Strasbourg (where he is replaced by Julien Stephan) marked by a victory in the Coupe de la Ligue in 2019, Laurey, a strong-character coach, will therefore try to bring up a third club in his career. He has already taken Gazélec Ajaccio from National in L1 (climbs in 2014 then in 2015) then Strasbourg in L1 in 2017.

Not really attracted by glitter and the profile of a builder, Laurey will return to L2 after four years spent in L1 with Strasbourg. “I'm going to tell you something: I'm an L2 coach, he said in“ Liberation ”in August 2019. Because L2 is L1 without the circus around. I remember a sentence from Mathieu Bodmer:

I like football, but not at all the barnum all around.

I had it posted in the locker room. "
