The "Mammoths" see themselves well prepared and announce a premiere.

Schongau - These days, the “summer training” begins for the youngsters in the Schongau ice skating department. The coaching team around the two main responsible parties, Björn Michels and Peter Franke, would have liked to start earlier, but the incidence figures did not allow that. But now the situation has improved. The figures presented by the EAS itself also ensure confidence: over 100 players, six teams, eleven coaches and, for the first time, two head coaches - the youngsters at EA Schongau are "well positioned for season one after the forced break," said club spokesman Gerhard Siegl.

Even if - because of the pandemic - the belt in the club has to be tightened financially, youth work is "an increasingly large item in the budget of the 'mammoths'", reports Siegl.

In addition to 13 trainers, players from the Bayernliga and Bezirksliga teams also take care of the training of young players between the ages of four and 20 years.

For the first time, two main coaches across all age groups are in action: Björn Michels and Peter Franke.

EA Schongau has two main coaches for the youngsters for the first time

Michels has "already done good preparatory work" at EA Schongau, says Siegl. Among other things, he mentions the “Skill Camps” organized by Michels. The BEV support point trainer will be supported by Franke in the future. The ex-national player from Füssen was already active as a coach in Schongau a few years ago and was most recently involved in addition to his work at BEV in Kaufbeuren und Füssen (DNL). Franke, holder of the A certificate, will primarily take care of the U15. In addition, the former goalkeeper will specifically take the EAS goalies under his wing. This means that goalkeeping training at EA Schongau is "not only an integral part of the weekly schedule, but also raised to a whole new level," says Siegl.

With all positive news, the following also applies: The EAS can handle growth in all age groups. According to Siegl, it is not yet clear to what extent the forced break caused by Corona will have an impact, and how many players have lost their interest in ice hockey. The squads in the U20 and U17 age groups are pretty thin. There are again syndicates with the ERC Lechbruck. In order to make it easier for young players who were on their way to the seniors last season, the EAS 1b team, which plays in the district league under coach Robert Kienle, is also included in the concept of youth development.
