After the German championship with the women of FC Bayern, Jens Scheuer looks ahead.

The coach has high goals and wants to stand up to VfL Wolfsburg.

Munich - In his second year in Munich, coach Jens Scheuer won the championship with the women of FC Bayern *.

In the interview, the 42-year-old looks back on a strong season, talks about newcomers and the upcoming season.

Mr. Scheuer, how does it feel to be German champion with a little distance?

Nice!

The first two or three days I first had to relax, now I can enjoy it.

I still had a few appointments and had to plan a few things before the summer break.

Now is the time to say: It's great what we have achieved with the team and the whole department.

FC Bayern (women): Reinforcements possible, question marks for two players

You said that preparations for the new season will start on the following Tuesday.

What is your daily routine now?

We're looking around a bit on the market, it's not yet entirely clear whether players will leave us.

There are question marks with one or two players.

That is why we have to keep our ears open so that we can react to possible changes.

In addition, I write the training plans together with my athletic trainer, the performance tests are scheduled so that we then have a smooth process in the preparation.

What school grade would you give the season?

You have to split that up.

A 1 in the Bundesliga, because the Hoffenheim game still annoys me (Editor's note: Bayern lost 3-2 after a 2-0 lead).

It was an almost perfect round, we played both games against Wolfsburg very well.

We won all games in such a way that it was deserved.

We also deserved to win the closer games, such as against Potsdam or the first leg in Freiburg.

And in the Champions League and DFB Cup?

We also played a very good series in the Champions League, in the semi-final second leg at Chelsea in London we weren't ripped off enough and then just before the end we simply had no luck with our chances.

With the step into the final it would have been a straight 1, I would say 1-.

It was a 2 in the DFB-Pokal, the game in Wolfsburg just wasn't good for us.

It was the first and only game of the season where we didn't reach our performance limits and deserved to be eliminated in the semi-finals.

Jens Scheuer: "Up until now Wolfsburg was the FC Bayern of women's football"

You only dropped five points in the league, but the championship was only confirmed on the last day of the match.

Would a more even league be desirable?

I would like a weaker competitor (laughs). Historically, Bayern Munich now has four championship titles and Wolfsburg has won the championship four times in a row in the last five years alone. Wolfsburg was until now the FC Bayern of women's football, VfL has always done an excellent job. We have now managed to fill the gap. But it will remain a hot duel, and it won't be a sure-fire success for us next season either. The years before we were the challengers, now Wolfsburg will challenge us. All in all, it would be nice if we could take further steps forward in the league. But not only Wolfsburg and Bayern, but also the other teams. For that you need the support of the entire football family. Clubs, associations, everyone who collaborates, must be willing to take one more step to make our league even more attractive. Not only for national players, but also for top international players.

Like the Japanese Saki Kumagai, who is moving from Olympique Lyon to Munich.

How did you convince them of FC Bayern?

Saki Kumagai is a really great player, a fine person who weighed a lot of things in her decision.

She made a list of pros and cons for every club she had an offer from.

We didn't convince them with money, but with sporting things, with our development and the good infrastructure.

Will there be more newcomers?

It depends.

As I said, there are still one or two decisions to be made by the players.

Sven Scheuer wants to go to the Champions League final with the women of FC Bayern

The season was the second of a four-year plan that should lead FC Bayern to the top of the national league and make it a contender for the Champions League title.

What are the next goals?

We want to remain number one nationally.

Of course, winning the DFB Cup is also a very big goal.

Winning the Champions League cannot yet be seen as a realistic goal, it takes a lot to become a winner.

The final is definitely a goal, as we were already in it with one leg this season.

But when you see how much is invested in the international competition, you always need top performance and a bit of luck and luck in the decisive moments.

You have been in Munich for two years now and have extended it until 2023.

What is your interim conclusion?

In terms of sport, I think that you can see a clear development. I would have loved to have won the championship with the team last year. But it also had to settle down a bit, we then had a year to work with the team, get to know them properly and make the right adjustments. We also looked at the newcomers to see what we need to overtake our rivals from Wolfsburg. The first season was okay by Bayern standards, I would say good with all the backgrounds. The second season was super sporty, as I imagine it to be. We brought our football to the field the way we work it out every day in training. Personally, I feel really good in Munich, the city is very beautiful and we have made a lot of new friends. The children go to school hereprivately everything runs smoothly. We are happy that we can live in the most beautiful federal state in Germany (laughs). (Interview: Christian Stüwe)
