Denmark's soccer star Christian Eriksen contacted his colleagues shortly after the final whistle after his team lost 2-1 at the European Championship against Belgium.
“Christian wrote us a message in the WhatsApp group.
He wrote us that we were incredible, ”said FC Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite after the game.
Supported by 25,000 loud spectators in the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, the Danes showed a strong performance just five days after Eriksen's cardiac arrest in the first European Championship game against Finland (0-1).
Yussuf Poulsen brought the European champions from 1992 into the lead in the second minute.
Dortmund's Thorgan Hazard (55th) and substitute Kevin De Bruyne (71st) turned the game in favor of the Belgians, who have already qualified for the round of 16 after two of three group games.
Due to the strong emotional stress of the past few days after Eriksen's breakdown, the Danes received a lot of praise for their performance.
“I play for the best club in the world.
But I have to say: The best team in the world played in the park tonight, ”said Barcelona striker Braithwaite.
