The French international Benjamin Pavard did not suffer from a concussion in the European football championship in the game against Germany last Tuesday.
This was announced by the European Football Union (Uefa), citing the team doctors of the French national team.
Immediately after Pavard's clash with German international Robin Gosens, there were no signs of this, a later investigation confirmed this.
"We are pleased that the medical team's actions were in accordance with the protocol," it said.
The FC Bayern player, who continued to play after a break in treatment, had himself stated that he was "a little knocked out".
"According to the reports that we have received from the team doctor, an unconsciousness does not seem to have occurred," said Uefa.
Pavard was hit with full force in the head by Gosens during a defensive operation after just under an hour and hit the grass hard.
The Uefa referred to its own "Concussion Charter", which is mandatory for all teams, for dealing with head injuries.
The player must be replaced if there is any sign of concussion or loss of consciousness.
"The team doctor is the only person" who is allowed to decide on the procedure, prescribes the Uefa.
Doctors found no concussion
According to the Uefa information, the French doctors "did not detect a suspected concussion either on site or after a thorough investigation by a renowned specialist during a subsequent check-up."
Among other things, the professional union FIFPro had expressed criticism of the approach in the Pavard case the day after the game.
"FIFPro is in contact with UEFA to find out why the charter was not applied and Pavard was not subsequently taken off the field," it said.
From the point of view of the union, the processes represent a disregard of the protocol. Accordingly, at least there was a suspicion of a concussion.
Due to the medical all-clear, Pavard could be part of the team of France coach Didier Deschamps in the second group game against Hungary on Saturday.
"He can prepare normally," said Uefa.
