The Italian first division soccer team AC Florence parted ways with coach Gennaro Gattuso after just a few weeks.
The Fiorentina and Gattuso have mutually decided not to pursue the agreements and not to start the coming season together, as the club announced.
They are already working on finding another coach, it said.
Gattuso was only introduced on May 25, and his contract would have started on July 1.
The media had already speculated about an end to Gattuso on Wednesday.
The "Gazzetta dello Sport" had written about tensions between the 43-year-old soccer world champion from 2006 and the club.
The southern Italian did not agree with some transfer decisions.
In the past Serie A season, Gattuso sat in the coaching bench at SSC Napoli.
In the end, he finished fifth with the team and narrowly missed the hoped-for Champions League placement.
Naples and Gattuso then separated, shortly afterwards he was already established as the new trainer in Florence.
