The Danish Football Association announced today that midfielder Christian Eriksen needs surgery after losing consciousness and falling during his country's first match against Finland in the European Championship (Euro 2020) last Saturday.
The federation said in an official statement via its Twitter account, "The team doctor, Morten Posen, was in contact with a cardiologist and they reached a solution about the player's condition."
"After Eriksen underwent several tests, it was decided that a pacemaker and a defibrillator should be implanted," he added.
He explained that this device is necessary after the player's heart attack due to heart rhythm disturbances, and the decision was confirmed by specialists at the national and international levels, and they all recommended the same treatment.
Denmark lost its first match in Euro 2020 against Finland with a goal without a response.
Denmark and Finland play in Group B of the continental championship, along with Belgium and Russia.
