On Saturday and Sunday, SC Freising will host a BVV Beach Masters category 2 - and Moritz Steinberg will also be a player from Freising.

Freising

- The corona incidences across Bavaria are at a level that makes sporting events possible.

The beach volleyball players have also been in full competition mode for a good two weeks - and on the weekend there is now a real highlight on the SC Freising courts: a BVV Beach Masters category 2 with a men's and a women's tournament.

The captain of the SCF regional league team is also involved.

The Bavarian Volleyball Association (BVV) has been making a stop at the sports club's grounds with one of its Beach Masters for many years.

After all, department head Dejan Jankovic and his team have proven in the past that they can organize tournaments like this very well.

A few weeks ago, the association asked the SCF whether the Masters could take place again in the cathedral city - and Jankovic did not hesitate: “We just want to send a signal that we volleyball players are still there, that we will be after the very long corona-related break doing something again. "

Jankovic: "We have to comply with certain hygiene rules again this year"

The Bavarian beach volleyball players have been back in competition mode since the beginning of June - in principle without prior preparation. Because the lockdown did not allow training with the ball either indoors or outdoors. While the beachers hesitated a little on the first two weekends in June to register for one of the tournaments, the run for the Masters in Freising is now very big. The waiting list is long.

Nevertheless, normality has only returned gradually: While the tournaments in the Luitpoldanlage in times before Corona were always accompanied by an extensive supporting program for the athletes and fans, there is no one like last year.

"We have to comply with certain hygiene rules again this year," explains Jankovic.

The tournaments are not played with a 24-field, as usual, but only with a 16-field.

In addition, the women's and men's tournaments take place on separate days.

It is the turn of the men on Saturday from 10 a.m. (finals from around 3 p.m.) and the women on Sunday from 10 a.m. (finals from 3 p.m.).

Jankovic does not want to stir the advertising drum too vigorously

For the first time in several years, Moritz Steinberg from Freising is daring to venture out into the sand again. Some time ago he was still one of the best beachers in Bavaria. His partner this year is Marko Riedlbeck from ASV Dachau, both of whom can take part thanks to a wildcard. Because the host has the right to allow a team to participate without having to pay attention to the corresponding points account from the previous year. However, the chance for the sports club oldie and his partner to place at the very front in the Freising tournament seems to be rather slim. The competition is extremely strong. It is thanks to department head Jankovic that Steinberg, captain of the SCF regional league team, is stepping into the sand again this year. He persuaded him to do it some time ago: "Because it's just nice when a Freisinger is there again."

Spectators are admitted to the two Beach Masters.

"In principle, 500 visitors would be possible outdoors," says Jankovic.

Due to the hygiene regulations, however, a center court with a grandstand may not be set up, for example.

In addition, the SCF division head sees a problem when many fans come to the Luitpoldanlage.

There isn't that much space around the four beach fields so that the spectators can keep enough distance from one another.

“That’s why I don’t want to beat the drum up too vigorously.” But of course he would be happy if one or two strollers or cyclists stop at the beach places.

Because top-class sport is offered there.
